In December, Mike and Allison had friends visiting who convinced them that it would be a good idea to run the Stockholm Marathon. I can only imagine that many drinks were had when this idea was discussed and agreed upon. I thought that they were crazy and reminded them of Pheidippides fate after he ran the equivalent of today's marathon. Pheidippes was an ancient Greek who ran 26.2 miles from the city of Marathon to Athens to proclaim the Athenians victory over the invading Persians. Upon entering the city gates, Pheidippes shouts nikomen (We have won) and dies. Yet, they were not deterred by my story of the past and forged on with a grueling training schedule.
To say that the weather the day of the marathon was less than ideal would be an understatement. The day of the big race, it was true Scandinavian weather. It was cold, windy and rainy. It wasn't just any type of rain either; it was a drenching downpour for six straight hours.
Yet, despite the horrible weather conditions, Mike and Allison both finished hand-in-hand (although both suffering from hypothermia).
Congratulations on your amazing accomplishment.
