Grattis på Födelsedagen, Cyle! (Happy Birthday!)

Grattis på Födelsedagen, Cyle!

For Cyle's birthday, we invited everyone to join us at a local Indian restaurant.  The restaurant, called Shanti, is a popular Indian restaurant in Stockholm.  They have four different restaurants, each with a different name and theme.  We went to Shanti: Soft Touch, which has a New York inspired theme.

The food was delicious and the company was even better.  Martin, who is from Sweden, brought Cyle a present of chocolate four leaf clovers.

He informed us that in Sweden, rather than saying Happy Birthday, they say Congratulations.  The candy was a nice touch, and added some Swedish traditions to the birthday celebrations.

I bought Cyle a cake from a local bakery.  It was a white cake (because that's Cyle's favorite cake) with a raspberry mousse and raspberry fruit topping.  It was delicious, although I have yet to find a bad pastry in Sweden.

Upon serving the cake, I laid the pieces flat rather than serving them upright.  Martin informed me that it's a Swedish superstition that if your piece of cake falls on it's side, it  means you'll not get married.  To remedy my faux pax, he had another piece of cake that he ensured was served upright. ;)

After dinner, we went home and Cyle opened his gift from me and Belle.

We bought him a sweater from a local store.  We wanted him to have some Swedish fashion.

Overall, Cyle had a wonderful birthday and even got a to experience a few Swedish birthday traditions.
